Hi. As a result of a failed backup, I'm having to reinstall Talks 4.0 premium on my Nokia N96. Now, I'm thinking it hasn't worked when I know the application is installed on this phone as it isn't talking to me. I finally, managed to grab a few minutes with mum this evening, when she had a look and told me I'd installed the Elloc TTS and Elequence files, but we couldn't get it to respond, yet I'm sure I downloaded Autosis as well when I was on Talknav.com the other day trying to sort it all out. I also thought the phone wasn't set to allow installation of all applications and that it wouldn't let Talks install due to its being an unsigned application. Mum also told me it isn't in the applications list in the tools menu where it would normally be, had it installed correctly. Is it possible I've missed something when installing Talks? I'm also a totally blind Zoner, lol, so if anyone who's in the same boat with a Symbian 3rd Generation Nokia N series phone could help, that would be seriously good times.
Cheers.
Jen.
Hi.
First of all make sure that the date and time on your phone are correct before trying to install talks. After updating the firmware on mine talks wouldn't install because the date was wrong on my phone. After correcting the date everything worked as ecpected.
If your time and ddate are correct make sure you install the tts first and then the main talks application.
I wish you good luck.
I hope that in the future nuance will develop a way for us to install talks compleetely indipendently. It is so anoying having to rely on sighted assistance sometimes.
Nikos
Yeah do as poster 2 said and also the Talks installer and elequence files should be signed. Also there is a way to install Talks and mobile speak independetly for the most part if you have the data cable and have the nokia pc suite application. The only thing you would need sighted assistance with is having someone set the data cable mode on your phone to pc suite mode.
Also forgot to add if you can get some sighted assistance try completely removing Talks from your phone and then reinstalling it.
Hi! Sorry your having trouble setting up talks!! It definitely is a pain, I just went through it not once, but twice, cause the first phone was defective, and I just got a replacement phone, so I had to reset up talks! (at least the second time it wasn't such of a pain cause we already knew how to set it up) and when I talked to them, (the people where I got talks from) they recommended sited assistance just because of the prompts, it beeps, but it's still a challenge to set up if your a blind user. (and even entering the cerial number was a pain and I had to have a sighted person help me with that) (thats another thing to consider having a sighted person help with) hope you get these issues figured out soon!
Good luck!
Amber.
